We are Suluma, a family that farms.
Rooted in Budadiri, on the fertile slopes of Mt Elgon, and reaching into Kampala, we grow food and raise livestock the way our land rewards: patiently, and in balance.
From one hillside plot to a farm that feeds beyond it.
Suluma began the way most good farms do: a family, a piece of land in Bulumolo, and the belief that if you treat the soil well it will keep its side of the bargain. The volcanic ground around Budadiri is generous, and Mt Elgon gives us two rains a year to work with.
Over time the farm grew from crops alone into a true mixed enterprise, cattle and goats alongside the banana groves, and an office in Luzira, Kampala to move what we grow closer to the people who eat it.
Four things we refuse to compromise on.
Care for the soil
We feed the land before it feeds us: compost, rotation, cover crops and manure from our own animals. Healthy soil is the whole business.
Honest produce
What we send to market is what we would put on our own table. Graded properly, stored well, and never rushed for a quick sale.
Good work, fairly shared
A farm is its people. We work with our neighbours in Sironko and share the seasons, and the harvest, with the community around us.
Built to last
We plant trees, protect water and think in decades, not seasons. The farm should be richer for the family that runs it next.
We grow more than crops.
Every season the farm creates work, keeps skills alive and puts food into local markets. When Suluma does well, the hillside around it does a little better too.
